Most AI tools will give you an image that’s 512 to 1500 pixels. That’s great for a social media post but way too small for screen printing or direct-to-film prints. Print needs 300 DPI (dots per inch) vs. screens at 72 DPI.

A low-resolution design will look fuzzy and pixelated. The design isn’t sharp or as clear as you want.

For comparison, a 12-inch print requires 3600 pixels, but most AI tools provide only 1024 pixels. That would work for a 3.4-inch print, but that’s much smaller than what most customers want.

We need vector files (.ai, .eps, .svg) for a truly clean screen print. That way the image can be easily burned onto the screen that will be used to print your shirts!

AI Doesn’t Handle Typography Well

Here’s why that’s a problem: The “lettering” is hard to match should you want to use that same style for a later design. From a printing standpoint, we don’t have a true font file.
